THE WINNER OF THE 2008 STORY AND PHOTO CONTEST IS DONNA CASTOR AND HERE IS HER STORY :
Hi,
I have been using North Woods Common Scents for several years now. I discovered it in Pleasant Valley Store in Enfield NH. I all ways stop there with my family on my way to my mothers on Thanksgiving Day, who lives in Canaan. I buy a bottle every year to make sure I don't run out. I mostly use doe in heat, but I use the other scents as well. This season I got an 8 point buck (see attachment) on the first day of rifle season, at 7:30 am.only being in the woods for one hour. He had his nose to the ground, smelling out the scent I had put down. I had been in the area a week prior with my muzzle loader, scouting out scrapes and putting down scent. The deer weighed 160 lbs. and it took me two hours to drag it out of the woods. My boyfriend Mike Royce, who I got hooked on your scents, also took a 4 point this year with his muzzle loader.
In 2007, I saw a nice buck that I didn't get a shot at (he saw me first). In 2006, I shot a 6 point (4 on one side and 2 on the other). I missed the first time, followed its tracks, it turned around and came back, so I got a second shot. In 2004, I shot a 3 point.
In 2003, I got serious about buck hunting. That's when I started using your product. Normally if I didn't get a deer during buck and doe season, I wouldn't bother with buck only. I thought the chance of me seeing a buck was slim. This time I hunted as much as I could. I had just moves from Gilsum to Sullivan NH and changed hunting areas. On the last day of the season, at 3:30 pm. an 8 point buck comes in to the scent. It weighed 155 lbs., the biggest deer I had gotten so far. I sent a picture of that deer in to the Hawkeye and was put on the front page.
All the bucks were coming into the scent, I think it's the best stuff there is. I have taken 11 deer so far, 7 of them consecutively, most recent. I like to hunt the old fashioned way, mostly by myself, sitting on the ground against a tree, scouting an area until I know it well. I will saw in the woods from morning until night. My dad who is a long time hunter is amazed every time I get a deer. He says "How do you do it." I tell him, It's the scent! I decided to look up your web sight and wanted to share my story.
thank you
